The 3TU.Federation consists of the following bodies.
Governing Board
The Governing Board comprises all members of the three Boards of the Universities of Technology. On the recommendations of the Executive Committee, the Governing Board draws up the long-term plan, the annual plan and the annual report of the 3TU.Federation. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee comprises the three Chairmen of the Boards of the Universities of Technology: D.J. van den Berg (TU Delft, chairman of the Executive Committee), dr.ir. A. Peels (TU/e) and Dr A.H. Flierman (UT).
The Executive Committee is responsible for the management of the 3TU.Federation. It makes decisions on proposals and recommendations by the Managing Committees for research, education and technology transfer. It approves plans, budgets and reports by the committees of the Centres of Competence (CoCs) and Centres of Excellence (CoEs), on the recommendation of the Managing Committees.

Managing Committee for Research
The Research portfolio holders of the Boards of the Universities of Technology are members of the Managing Committee for Research. This committee is responsible for developing and supervising the cooperation and the planning of the Universities of Technology in the area of research, known as: "3TU.Research". In 3TU.Research Centres of Competence and Centres of Excellence are formed. The Managing Committee for Research supervises the performance of the Centres of Competence and Centres of Excellence and their committees. All three Universities of Technology participate in the Centres.

Managing Committee for Education
The Education portfolio holders of the Boards of the Universities of Technology are members of the Managing Committee for Education. This committee is responsible for developing and supervising cooperation and planning of the Universities of Technology in the area of education, also known as: "3TU.Education".

Managing Committee for Technology Transfer
The Technology Transfer portfolio holders of the Boards of the Universities of Technology are members of the Managing Committee for Technology Transfer. This committee is responsible for developing and supervising cooperation and planning of the Universities of Technology in the area of technology Transfer, also known as: "3TU.Technology Transfer". The 3TU Federation Secretary advises the Executive Committee and Managing Committees and contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic policy. The 3TU Communication Advisor is the contact person for all 3TU communication. She participates in the Marketing & Communication Working Group and is responsible for coordinating its activities. Centres of Competence and Centres of Excellence
In the Centres of Competence:
- Colleagues of the three Universities of Technology pool their skills and harmonise their efforts and research priority areas;
- Professional colleagues from other universities or institutes may contribute;
- With the exception of the Centre for Ethics and Technology, the Centres of Excellence focus on special research projects and programmes within their area.
The five Centres of Competence are:
- CoC High Tech Systems
- CoC Netherlands Institute of Research on ICT ("NIRICT")
- CoC University Research Group on Sustainable Energy Technologies ("URGENT")
- CoC Applications of NanoTechnology
- CoC Fluid and Solid Mechanics
The six Centres of Excellence are:
- 3TU.Centre for Intelligent Mechatronic Systems
- 3TU.Centre for Dependable ICT Systems
- 3TU.Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies
- 3TU.Centre for Multiscale phenomena
- 3TU.Centre for Bio-Nano Applications
- 3TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology
Each Centre of Competence has a board formed by the dean of each of the three Universities of Technology who is the most involved in the subject area concerned. Furthermore, each Centre of Competence has a Scientific Director who coordinates the work within the Centre of Competence, including the Centres of Excellence within it, and advises the board accordingly.
