Is your company faced with a technological problem that needs solving or a challenging design issue that needs unraveling?
3TU.School for Technological Design, Stan Ackermans Institute (SAI) offers several post-MSc technological designer programmes. A technological designer of SAI may be an attractive option for cooperation. You can have the benefits of a highly qualified employee in-house for a whole year. A year in which this technological designer will carry out a pre-defined design assignment for you. A time in which you get to know the person well. At the end of the project you are in the perfect position to decide whether to offer him or her a position within your company. Practice reveals that this is the case for most designers.
Excellent designers
Technological designers all have a university engineering degree before they enroll in the two-year designer programme. Selection for this programme is tough: admission is restricted to only those candidates (10 to 20%) that fulfill the criteria.
First year: special syllabus
During their programme the technological designers spend their first year following a special syllabus, which involves a large number of courses as well as interactive workshops and group and practical assignments. Learning to design is at the core of this first year. In addition to topics of a more technological content, the participants acquire more general skills such as project management, presenting and handling conflict.
Second year: in-company design assignment
In the second year the designers carry out a design assignment in-company. Their prior engineering education and the supplementary design schooling puts them in an excellent position to take on this assignment in consultation with the client. University experts act as supervisors, bringing in state-of-the-art technology, advising on the structure and execution of the project and monitoring that the goals of the project are sufficiently realized. Once the assignment has been completed, it is assessed by an independent committee of university experts. A positive assessment leads to the award of the degree Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng).
Programmes
At the moment SAI offers 20 designer programmes.
Successful formula
The designer programmes have been around for 25 years and the three TU’s have generated more than 3,300 technological designers in that time. Most designers have joined the companies where they carried out their design assignments and many now have management jobs.
