The program 'Process and Product Design' is a joint responsibility of the Stan Ackermans Instituut and the management team (MT) of the program. This MT consists of a managing director, a scientific director, a first year coordinator, a management assistant, and two project managers taking care of project acquisition and progress monitoring. A program group 'Process and Product Design', consisting of professors and associate and assistant professors of the participating departments is also involved in the management of the program.
The course participants, often also referred to as TOIOs (Technologisch Ontwerper In Opleiding; trainee design engineers), are appointed for two years and receive a salary of approximatley euro 1,700 gross per month.
Within the program there are regular meetings and consultations on various levels. The MT meets every week, and once a month it has a meeting with delegates from the course participants during which all kinds of organizational subjects are discussed. In another monthly meeting, representatives from the MT and the course participants discuss educational subjects like on-going courses and evaluation of recently completed courses. A few times a year, the MT, lecturers and program group come together to discuss the current curriculum and to decide on possible adaptations or changes. Similar discussions are also organized on a national level with delegates from the research school OSPT, the sister departments at Delft and Twente participating in the OSPT, and representatives from industry in the industrial sounding board group IROP.
Each month, all course participants come together for a day of meetings, which are partly dedicated to evaluation of project progress and the state of affairs of projects that are about to be started. Furthermore, course participants hold interim talks on their projects. This is followed by a group session of all course participants, for which the MT and teachers are also invited. Here, all sorts of activities, like study tours and symposiums, are discussed and often one of the course participants will hold a talk on a cultural subject. It also provides the opportunity to exchange ideas with the MT.
The program is systematically evaluated and certified by the Dutch Certification Committee, whose members all come from industry. In 2006 a certification was granted that will be effective until June 2011.
Certified diplomas of Professional Doctorates in Engineering (PDEng) are entered into the register of the Royal Dutch Institute for Engineers (KIvI).
