Track 1:  Mentoring and portfolio (4 ects)

There are two portfolio meeting modulus during the first and second year.

Year 1 (2 ects)
During the first year the trainee has his progress meetings and takes actions to communicate with the company for working out his final company assignment.

Year 2 (2 ects)
During the second year the trainee has his monthly contact days and will organize a symposium together with the other trainees.

Track 2: Smart energy fundamentals and design (23 ects)

The Integral Smart Energy lectures interact directly with the cases of the first year. The Integral Smart Energy modulus starts with a kickoff session in which trainees are given an assessment and intake interview. Based on this session, trainees are then provided with personal advice on the knowledge and competencies they need to work on. Participants can choose from among eight workshops. The workshops start with a master class on topics in the Smart Energy in Buildings and City field. Some of the issues that are covered include: integral design; thermodynamic energy systems; heat pumps refrigeration; indoor climate; thermal comfort; buildings as energy systems; use of computer programs for predicting energy use of buildings etc.; electrical energy components; zero energy buildings;  Smart Buildings (artificial topics, object oriented programming, unified modeling language (uml),); smart grids; etc. In a master class, the material is introduced by an expert on the specific topic, and subsequently the topic will be explored in more detail by the trainees and instructors.

Track 3: Design cases (12 ects)

In the first year the trainees work on two cases. Case one deals on component and building level.  Case two on building and district level. The trainees will explore both cases as a team under the supervision of a coach together with (international) experts.

Track 4: Company assignment (50 ects)

In the first year a proposal for the company assignment will be written in co-operation with the company. In the second year the trainee works in a company on his final project. A significant part of each of the design programs is the final project, leading to a technological design. The final project takes the form of a realistic design assignment, carried out in an industrial context. Every final project is unique; supervisors differ from project to project and the methods to be followed in the project vary drastically over the various programs. This makes the task of doing a fair and objective assessment far from trivial. Still, to ensure a uniform quality standard among the SAI programs, an unbiased assessment procedure is of paramount importance.

Track 5:  Entrepreneurial skills (15 ects)

This course modulus starts with a kickoff session in which trainees will do an assessment and intake interview. Based on this session, trainees are then provided with personal advice on the knowledge and competencies they need to work on. Participants can choose from among twelve skills training sessions provided by the Experience Center. The skills include: presentation; writing ; how to write an account management plan; sales; decision-making ; social networking; traditional networking; intercultural negotiations; scenario thinking; intercultural communication; dilemma training. Master classes are offered on relevant, timely topics in the entrepreneurial field. Besides the training sessions the trainees will participate in the workshop ‘Entrepreneurship’ organized by ESADE in Barcelona. The final part of the program involves writing an individual business plan under the supervision of both an academic professional and the personal mentor.
