General structure
During the first year, you will continue to nurture both your personal growth and professional expertise. The second year is dedicated to your project.

Challenging academic courses and projects
The programmes offer you an opportunity to enhance your technological expertise and develop your professional skills. You will work with the latest design methodologies in multidisciplinary projects and follow challenging, in-depth courses on the discipline of your choice. This will help you look at projects from a wider perspective. Your lecturers from academia and industry will share the latest scientific insights and their real-world expertise.

Developing excellent professional skills
Nowadays, employers are looking for engineers who have more than just the right technical background - the engineers of the future also need stellar professional skills. That’s why you follow courses to develop your communication, presentation, project management, teamwork and problem-solving skills during your EngD.

Innovative technological design project
The 12-month technological design project which you will do for a leading high-tech company or healthcare facility, is the highlight of the programme. You will develop an innovative industrial product or process in a large-scale, multidisciplinary setting. Of course, you will have the full support and resources of the university at your back.
Your technological solution will help solve a real-world business challenge and increase the profitability of the company or facility you are working for. This will give you valuable practice in solving real industrial problems and unlock exciting career opportunities. Many of our EngD trainees have found jobs with (multi-)national companies, including Philips, ASML, NXP, Océ Technologies, Akzo Nobel, Vodafone, Ericsson, DSM, Unilever, Schiphol Airport and TNO.

A full list of our 20 programmes and tracks can be found here.

Salary
As an EngD trainee, you will receive a salary from the university and will not have to pay a tuition fee.
